Are laptops’ “chronic problems” really chronic? Known faults model by model, and their permanent fixes

When you research a laptop model you often come across the phrase “this model has a chronic problem”. It is true that certain faults appear more often on some models than on others. But a fault being common does not make it chronic.

The cause of almost all of these faults is known: a sensor placed at a hot spot, hinge force acting on thin plastic mounts, a cable left too short. A fault with a known cause is fixed permanently once that cause is removed. In most “it happened again” cases, what repeats is not the fault but a fix that ignores its cause: unplugging a cable, gluing a mount, fitting a part with the same weakness under the same conditions.

Below you will find the known faults on the most asked-about models, with our detailed guide for each.

HP Victus 15 / Victus 16

HP Omen 15 / Omen 17

  • Hinge and cracked case: cracks in the lid and keyboard deck, recurring after repair. → HP Omen broken hinge
  • Overheating and graphics card failure: FPS drops, coloured dots, loss of picture. → HP Omen overheating

Acer Nitro 5 (AN515)

MSI GF63 Thin

ASUS TUF Gaming (F15, A15, FX505)

Lenovo Legion 5

MacBook Pro 2016–2017

  • Flexgate: stage-light effect at the bottom of the screen, blackout at an angle. → MacBook Pro flexgate

5 questions for choosing the right repair shop

When looking for a technician or repair service for these faults, these questions tell you whether you will get a permanent fix:

  1. Will the fault be diagnosed by measurement? A part swapped on a guess can leave the real fault in place.
  2. Is the cause being removed? Unplugging a cable, gluing a mount or leaving the same stiff hinge does not remove the cause.
  3. Is the repair done at component level? Many faults are fixed without replacing the motherboard, by repairing a single component.
  4. Is there testing after the repair? The laptop should be tested hot, under load.
  5. Is the repair guaranteed? What happens if the same fault returns should be clear from the start.

How we work at Bilişim Laboratuvarı

In our lab in Küçükçekmece we find the fault with a thermal camera, oscilloscope and measurements, and carry out the repair under the microscope, at component level. After diagnosis we tell you clearly what will be done, repair it with your approval, and test the laptop under load before handing it back.

We hand every repair back with a guarantee; if the same fault returns within the warranty period, we assess your device free of charge.

For a model or fault not listed here, see our laptop repair service page or simply submit a fault report. You can drop your device off from any district of Istanbul, or from anywhere in Türkiye you can send it to us by cargo.

Frequently asked questions

What does it mean when a laptop model has a “chronic problem”?

It usually means a particular fault is common on that model. Being common does not make it chronic; a fault with a known cause is fixed permanently once that cause is removed.

Why does a repaired fault come back?

Mostly because its cause was not removed: the sensor cable being unplugged, the hinge mount only being glued, or a part with the same weakness being fitted under the same conditions. Measured diagnosis and a repair that removes the cause prevent this.

Why do gaming laptops fail more often?

High heat and power make cooling powerful components in a thin case harder; parts like sensors, hinges and cables are under more strain. Regular cooling maintenance and early intervention reduce the risk.

Can I send my device from outside Istanbul?

Yes. You can send your device by cargo from anywhere in Türkiye; you are informed after diagnosis, and the device repaired with your approval is sent back to you.
