HP Victus broken hinge: lid separating, case opening up — a permanent, guaranteed fix
One of the most common mechanical faults on HP Victus laptops is a broken hinge. It shows up on both the Victus 15 and the Victus 16, usually in normal use and without the laptop ever being dropped: there is a cracking noise from the hinge side when you open the screen, the bezel starts to lift at the corner, and the lid cracks around the hinge.
The good news: this fault is not chronic. Its cause is well understood, and with the right diagnosis and the right repair it is fixed permanently.
Symptoms: how a hinge fault starts
- A cracking or creaking sound from the hinge side when opening and closing the screen
- The bezel lifting at the bottom corner, leaving a gap
- A crack in the lid or bottom case around the hinge
- The screen twisting as it opens, straining on one side
- In advanced cases, flicker, lines or loss of picture
Why does it break?
HP’s own support community has many similar reports for the Victus 15 and Victus 16. The common thread: the hinge has high turning resistance, while the screw mounts that hold it sit inside a thin plastic case. Every time the screen is opened or closed, the hinge’s force acts on these mounts; over time a mount cracks, the threaded metal insert tears out of the plastic and the hinge starts pushing the case apart.
So what breaks is usually not the metal hinge itself but the mounts that attach it to the case. That distinction also explains why the repair has to address the cause.
Why is it risky to keep using it?
A hinge with a torn-out mount pushes the case open a little further with every movement. The display cable runs right next to the hinge, so it starts to get crushed and worn. At that point a hinge job can turn into a display and cable repair. Once you notice the symptoms, open and close the screen as little as possible and always open it with both hands, from the middle.
Why gluing it is not a fix
A mount closed up with superglue or silicone seems to hold for a while, but because the hinge force has not changed it tears out again under the next load — and the glue residue makes the later repair harder. Likewise, replacing only the case part and leaving the stiff hinge as it is brings the fault back after a while. This is usually why people say “it is this model’s chronic problem, it will happen again”: what repeats is not the fault but a fix that ignores its cause.
A permanent, guaranteed fix: right diagnosis + right repair
At Bilişim Laboratuvarı we repair the HP Victus hinge fault in these steps:
- Damage assessment: the case is opened and the broken screw mounts, the hinge itself, the lid and the bezel are inspected one by one. The hinge’s turning stiffness is checked; a seized or bent hinge left in place will break the new mount too.
- Display cable and panel check: the display cable that runs past the hinge is checked for crushing, breaks and poor contact. If the picture has started to flicker or show lines, the cable and panel are tested.
- Rebuilding the mount, reinforced: if the damage is limited, the torn-out mounts are rebuilt by fixing the threaded metal inserts firmly into the case and reinforcing the surrounding area. Gluing alone is not a fix; the same force pulls the mount out again at the next opening.
- Case part replacement: if the lid or bottom case is shattered, that part is replaced.
- Hinge adjustment or replacement: the over-stiff hinge — the real cause of the fault — is brought back to the correct turning resistance or replaced. The repair only lasts if this step is done.
- Testing: the screen is opened and closed many times to check hinge movement, case fit and picture.
We hand every repair back with a guarantee; if the same fault returns within the warranty period, we assess your device free of charge.
Other faults seen on the HP Victus
- Screen going black and sleeping on its own while gaming: HP Victus hall sensor failure (fixed for good by repairing the sensor, repairing the motherboard fault that caused it and carrying out thermal maintenance)
- Not charging, not turning on, performance dropping on the charger: HP Victus not charging or turning on
For other HP series, see our HP repair service page. If your HP Victus creaks or separates at the hinge, submit a fault report. Our lab in Küçükçekmece is easy to reach from Avcılar, Başakşehir, Bahçelievler and Esenyurt; if you are outside Istanbul, you can send it to us by cargo.
Frequently asked questions
Is the HP Victus hinge problem chronic?
No. Its cause is clear: the force of a stiff hinge acting on the screw mounts in a thin plastic case. Once the mounts are rebuilt and reinforced and the hinge is brought back to the correct turning resistance, the problem is solved for good.
Can I keep using my HP Victus with a broken hinge?
It is not recommended. The torn mount pushes the case further apart at every opening, and the display cable running past the hinge can be damaged. Until the repair, open and close the screen as little as possible.
Does gluing the hinge work?
It holds briefly but not permanently. Since the hinge force does not change, the mount tears out again, and glue residue makes the later repair harder.
Does the screen need replacing in an HP Victus hinge repair?
Not if the display cable and panel are undamaged. They are tested during the repair; replacement is only recommended if there is damage.
Is the HP Victus hinge repair guaranteed?
Yes. We hand the repair back with a guarantee; if the same fault returns within the warranty period, we assess your device free of charge.
